In today's mainstream church there are many teachings about how one receives the Holy Ghost. Some believe they receive the Holy Ghost when they go to the altar and repent of their sins. Some people believe they have received the Holy Ghost because they have made a change in their life. Some believe they have received the Holy Ghost because they shout around the church, feel joy and very happy at the end of service.

Brothers and sisters let me ask you a serious question. What Evidence does the Bible gives to let you know that you have received the Holy Ghost? In the 5th chapter of St. John, a Pharisee by the name of Nicodemus came to Jesus by night and tells him that they know that he is a teacher from God. "For no man can do these miracles that thou doest except God be with him."

Jesus answered and said unto him, "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus asked a question, how can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus said unto him, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. In the eighth verse; Jesus says, " The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

In this passage of scripture, Jesus tells Nicodemus that there is tangible evidence that one has when he receives the Holy Ghost. Everyone that is born of the Spirit will have the same tangible evidence.

In Acts chapter 1 Jesus tells his disciples to tarry (this word simply means to wait) in Jerusalem until they receive the promise of the father, which was the Holy Ghost.  In the 2nd chapter of Acts we find the disciples in the upper room on the day of Pentecost, they had been praying and pleading unto God for the Holy Ghost. "And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongue as the Spirit gave them utterance." Acts 2: 2-4   In this passage of scripture we can clearly see that the disciples know that they had received (or had been filled) with the Holy Ghost because they spoke with tongues, not because they were praying and pleading with God. This was tangible evidence that Jesus told Nicodemus that everyone would have when they receive the Holy Ghost.

In this chapter, we find Philip in the city of Samaria preaching Christ unto the people. The people heard and saw the miracles that he performed. There was great joy in the city and the people believed. Even Simon the sorcerer believed and was baptized. Although they heard and saw miracles, had great joy, believed and were baptized there was still something missing. They had not received the HOLY GHOST. How do we know this to be true? The apostle came from Jerusalem and laid hands on the people. When Simon saw that the Holy Host was given, through the laying on of apostles' hands, he offered them money. This let us know that there was TANGIBLE EVIDENCE that they had received the HOLY GHOST.

In this chapter, about 20 years after Pentecost, we are introduced to a man name Cornelius. He was a centurion that the bible called a devout man, one that feared God with all his heart, he gave much alms to the people and prayed to God always. If he was living today most people would say that he was missing something. God instructed him to call for Peter. Peter came and preached the gospel to him and his house and they received the Holy Ghost. How do we know they received? VS 46, "For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God".

In this chapter Paul meets men who the bible called disciples. In most cases we would believe because these men were disciples surely they, of all people, would have the Holy Ghost. But Paul asks them had they received the Holy Ghost. Paul baptized them in the name of Jesus and laid hands on them. They received the Holy Ghost. How do we know they received the Holy Ghost? They spoke with tongues, and prophesied. This is the tangible evidence that Jesus spoke of in the 3rd chapter of St. John.

Friends do not be deceived there is only one way and one way only to know that you have received the Holy Ghost. Jesus Himself told this to Nicodemus. The evidence that God in Christ has given unto us is speaking with tongues. This is how the disciples and the apostles knew they had received the Holy Ghost and this is how you will know that you have receive the Holy Ghost by Speaking with Tongues as the Spirit of God gives utterance.

If you have not received the Holy Ghost, PLEASE do not leave this planet without it because you can NOT enter the KINGDOM of GOD without it. The Bible declares in Ephesians chapter 4:30 that we are sealed with the Holy Ghost until the day of Redemption.

If you desire and if you are not sure, that you have received the Holy Ghost, please talk to our Pastor or one of the church staff members or counselors. They will be more than happy to pray and work with you until you receive the Holy Ghost.
